Axle and Wheel Loadings
Axle loadings can be calculated as shown. To obtain wheel
loadings, divide the axle loadings by the number of wheels
carried on that axle. (For the purpose of these calculations
two load wheels in line, as on a reach truck, are as though
carried on a single axle). Truck dimensions, service weight
and unladen loadings on each axle must relate to truck
specification.
- Loading on rear, steer axle: QR=unladen, QRL=laden
- Loading on front, load axle: QF=unladen, QFL=laden
- Q = load weight
- Y = wheelbase
- A = C + X (counterbalance truck)
- A = C + reach travel - X (reach truck)
Counterbalance truck and reach truck with
'reach out'
- QRL = QR - Q x A / Y
- QFL = Truck Weight + Q - QRL
Reach truck with 'reach in' and pallet truck, etc.
- QFL = QF + Q x B / Y
- QRL = Truck Weight + Q - QFL
